For a Special Young Woman

I’d like to tell you about a special young woman who has enriched my life fortwenty three years. As time went on, she wasn't a standout in school, but herloving heart gathered friends of all kinds around her. Through good and badtimes, she was always a close friend to me and I believed completely in her.

When she turned eighteen, she found a part time job and enrolled in college.

Friends and relatives all told me that I would lose the closeness and thecontact I cherished with her when she became an adult. They said it was normalfor us to grow apart. But this special young woman defied the normal and hasstayed in close contact with me. She recently took me to lunch for my birthdayand gave me a card, which brought tears of gratefulness to my eyes. I wish morethan anything that I’d written the card and those words to her, my belovedgranddaughter.
