A:I am really interested in football but some of the jargon used really confuses me. Can you explain it to me?

A:我对足球特感兴趣，可是我老搞不清楚那些技术用语，你能给我解释一下吗?

B:OK. Let's start with the players. They are usually divided into three groups. First of all, there is the defense which consists of a goalkeeper, a right back, a left back and then two center backs.

B:好啊，咱们从球员开始说起。他们通常分为三组，首先是防守组，由守门员，一名左后卫，一名右后卫，还有两名中后卫组成。

A:Then you have midfield, right?

B:Yeah. Two central midfield players and a right and a left winger.

A:That just leaves two players if my math is correct.

B:It is. Two strikers, but one is called the centre forward.

A:OK. That's the players dealt with. What about terms associated with the game?

B:Well, players score a goal. If a player scores two goals, it is called a brace. If a player scores three goals in a match then that is called a hat trick.

B:嗯，队员靠进球来得分。如果在一场比赛中，一名队员进了两个球，就叫做“梅开二度”，要是进了三个球，则被叫做“帽子戏法”。

A:Why is it called that?

A:为什么这么叫啊?

B:Apparently in the old days before players were paid, if they scored three goals then a hat was passed round the crowd who contributed some money and then it was given to the player.

B:在早些时候，球员并没有酬劳，要是他能够在比赛中射进三个球，人们就会在观众席中传递一个帽子，在里面放钱，送给进球的球员。
