B:Oh,it's you,Karen.I'm looking for you.Yes,I am having a marvellous time.Are the firm's parties always as much fun as this?

A:Too much so;sometimes.It's a good chance when we all get together and make ourselves relax.You can know more people here and make friends.Ah,Jennie,I'd like you to meet Tony from accounts and Vernon from the filing department.Tony,Vernon,this is Jennie.She's just joined the firm,and she's working in the same office with me.

C:Hi,Jennie,nice to meet you.You don't mind if I call you that,do you?We're very formal .you know.

A:I don't mind at all.Actually,I've been wondering how I ought to address people.

D:Oh,well,supervisors and senior staff are always addressed by their surnames-though they don't know what we call them behind their backs!

C:Some of their nicknames are really funny,(laughing),as you will soon find out,Jennie.

B:I'd like to know about them.

C:Karen,perhaps you'd better warn Jennie about our office 'wolf'.

B:What's that?

A:(laughing)Oh,that's Peter Jenkins from the legal department.He always fancies himself as the answer to every maiden's prayer.Whenever a pretty new girl comes he feels he's got to make a hit with her.Just don't take him too seriously,and you'll be all right.

D:Look out,Jennie!The ‘wolf' himself is making a bee line for you.Perhaps he's going to ask you to dance the next Tango.E:Hello,Jennie.Can I have this dance,please?

B:Yes,Mr Jenkins.I'd be very delighted.

D:That's put your nose out of joint,Tony.

C:I don't care.I am going to ask Miss Maggen for the pleasure of this dance.

A:Look!Jennie seems to have settled in very well now.

C:Yes,she's a bright girl,and I specially like her carefulness and good humour.

A:That's enough praise for Jennie.Come and dance!
