Joan：I like to make friends with people who are open and friendly. These people are usually active and fun to be with.

Jack：Sure. But sometimes those who are not open and active can make very good friends.

Jack：Oh, don't get me wrong. I'm just saying that maybe you don't have much in common, but you feel very comfortable when you are with each other.That's a great feeling.

Joan：I agree. But generally, I prefer to make friends with those who share similar interests with me.We can do a lot of things together and it's great fun. I love spending time with my friends.

Jack：That certainly is good. But I think the more important thing about friendship is that you can share happiness and sorrows;you can always help each other but when in trouble, you can cheer each other up when disheartened.

Joan：Yes, that is true. So I think being a good friend means you have to be supportive, willing to help, honest, trustworthy and a good listener.These qualities are important in maintaining good friendships.
