Buyer:Since we all reach an agreement in the price and quality and quantity of our goods, why don't we talk about the terms of payment?

Seller:Well, about the payment, we only accept irrevocable letter of credit payable against shipping documents.

Buyer:L/C would be a little tricky for us.How about D/A or D/P, any exception allowed?

Seller:I'm afraid not. Payment by L/C is safer.This is the normal terms of payment in international business.We insist on a letter of credit.

Buyer:To tell you the truth, a letter of credit would increase the cost of my import.When I open a letter of credit with a bank, I have to pay a deposit.That’ll tie up my money and increase my cost.

Seller:Consult your bank and see if they will reduce the required deposit to a minimum.

Buyer:If we take term of L/C, our trading deadline will become longer.

Seller:This is a block trade. A long trade deadline does make sense.Anyway, we only accept a letter of credit payment as a supplier.

卖方:你和开证行商量一下,看他们能否把押金减少到较低限度。

买方:如果采用信用证条款,交易期限就会变长了。

卖方:这是一笔大宗买卖,长的交易期限是有道理的。不管怎么样,作为供货方,我们只接受信用证付款。
