A:Good afternoon, Professor Smith.

B:Oh, hi, Li. What can I do for you?

A:Could you write a letter of recommendation for me? I am applying for admission to the University of California.

B:Ah, that s a good university. Sure, I d be happy to write you one.

A:Thank you very much. When can I pick it up?

B:You don t have to. American universities prefer to have letter of recommendation sent directly from the people who write them. Just leave me some information about where you want it sent, and I ll have it in the mail by tomorrow afternoon.
